New Parts, New Problems

This past Thursday, UPS delivered the 3D printed parts for the updated design of my anemometer. Like a little kid on Christmas morning, I tore into the packaging with a vengeance.

I’m still amazed at the world we live in where someone can wirelessly transmit what equates to a text file, and a little over a week later, receive a real copy of something that, until days before, only existed in the digital world of 1’s and 0’s.

Gathering all the necessary extra parts, I test fit the 13mm bearing onto the clip that sits comfortably inside the rotor – a perfect fit. Now it was only a matter of whether or not the stator design would accept the bearing as comfortably as the rotor.

Almost a year

Posted in Blog with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 18, 2014 by sethkoberg

It’s been almost a full year since my last post and I can’t say I’m surprised.

2013 was the year of ideas. Most of which were never touched, some were started and left to sit, and only one I can think of that was actually finished – an entertainment center for our new T.V – something that had to be completed in order for us to enjoy our new investment.

This year, however, is going to be the year of creation. I know it has been said before, even in this blog, but I’ve made a deal with The Husband that I can not purchase any more camera related equipment until I finish my list of to-do’s. That being said, I’ve run head first into my first project of the year; something that I had started years ago which has been itching to get finished.

Monday Morning

Posted in Blog on February 18, 2013 by sethkoberg

Another Sunday passes and I don’t have a post for what I had planned. Don’t worry though, loyal readers, as I’m in the process of writing my first tutorial, which should be posted here very shortly.

Last week I had been working on the upcoming post on and off for the majority of the week, and there is a good amount of it written, however, over this past weekend, the husband and I drove north into New Jersey to see a friend, Monica, perform, and took in  day at the Baltimore Aquarium.

So, while you patiently wait for my tutorial to be posted, check out Monica on Sound Cloud and have a good Monday!

A rare Mid-week update

Posted in Blog with tags , , , , , , , , on February 14, 2013 by sethkoberg

Last week, I attempted to mount a photograph to some foam board for a tutorial I was planning on publishing here at The Professional Dork; however, things didn’t go as planned, and I was left with a time lapse video of what amounts to me playing in my parents garage. The goal for last week was two fold: One, have a finished product that I could write a tutorial on, and two, have a time lapse video of the process so I could write a second tutorial on how I created the time lapse. Mounting the Lincoln Memorial

Posted in Blog with tags , , , , , , , , on February 10, 2013 by sethkoberg

Well, folks, in keeping with my “promise” of writing an entry every Sunday, here I am with what was supposed to be my first published tutorial on The Professional Dork.

This evening, I had tried to mount my “Lincoln Memorial” photograph onto some 1/4″ foam board I had purchased at a local hobby shop. Failing that, the only thing I have is a time lapse video of me not doing what I had attempted. Not a terrible loss, honestly, as I know now how not to mount a photograph to foam board. Sunday Night Catch-up.

Posted in Blog with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 3, 2013 by sethkoberg

Last post, I told you about this list of projects I’d like to finish by the end of this year. Here is an almost complete list of those projects, in random order:

  • Entertainment center
  • Shelving unit
  • Brick patio
  • Indoor Seed starter system
  • Green house/raised planter
  • Cajón
  • Pong-sat
  • Dice portrait
  • Juggling music video
  • Photo shoot

This list isn’t complete, but it is a start.

Another thing I need to work on is regularly updating this blog. I’m going to try and post an update at least once a week, on Sunday, updating what I’ve accomplished in the past week and what I plan on accomplishing in the up coming week.

Work to be done

Posted in Blog with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 30, 2013 by sethkoberg

Well, as it seems, I have a tendency to neglect my blog and post only once every few months; however, I am hoping to change that.

I have decided to christen 2013 as “the year of production.”

Being someone that makes a habit of inadvertently creating virtual lists of things I need or want, I am attempting to have this year be the year most, if not all, of those things gets finished. This list consists of projects that I have assigned to myself for the sole purpose of being able to say, “look at what I have made! Bask in all its glory!”

These projects range from wood working to electronics, gardening to photography, and almost every craft or hobby in between.

A lot of these projects could be finished simply by throwing money at them. For instance, one thing my husband and I need is a new entertainment center, but going out to the big box store and buying one would defeat the purpose of getting my hands dirty and actually creating something.

Like Nikola Tesla said, “I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success.”

Now, it is time for me to get to work.
